Last Blog
Three weeks ago, you were asked to find an online article that deals with careers and tips for success. I have chosen six articles of the twelve that have been submitted on your blogs.
The links to these articles are below (along with the students’ name that selected them):
http://humanresources.about.com/od/careersuccess/Career_Success.htm (TIFFANY)
http://www.quintcareers.com/dress_for_success.html (Matt)
http://careertipsblog.com/ (Jen)
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25351333/ (Jenna)
http://www.quintcareers.com/career_planning_tips.html (Cecilia)
http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/career-articles-8_mistakes_to_avoid_in_your_first_quot_real_quot_job-1255 (Paul)

Directions:
1. Skim through the titles of all SIX articles.
2. Decide what TWO articles you are going to read (You MAY NOT CHOOSE AN ARTICLE THAT YOU ORIGINALLY PICKED)
3. Read TWO articles and summarize them on your blog page.
4. Choose one fact from each of the articles that you agree with, state them, and explain why you believe in it.
5. Lastly, visit each of your classmate’s blog pages and give an “end of the year” wish (like a yearbook signing…keep it clean!).

  3. -When Job Hunting:Dress For Success-
Dress for success. Although, a job shouldn't depend upon attire and first impressions.. sometimes it does. So make sure you're dressed for you're interview to set a positive mood for the rest of you're interview following introductions and a first impression.

I agree, a job should not rely simply on a frist impression. However, first impressions forever stay with a person. How you look and act the first time you meet someone does forever effect the persons opinion and view of another person.

-8 Mistakes To Avoid in Your First Real Job-
Don't be impatient, make a meaningful contribution stating your first day. Also, don't be too patient that you seem passive. There are other things to make sure you do and don't do as you begin a job. This article clearly lists and explains the do's and dont's.

I like that this article gives clear examples of what to do as well as what not to do. It's a good idea to get a sense of both, rather than just being told what is wrong.

  5. I think being able to wear head phone and listen to music will be very good. Some people will tell you they think having music on is the most distracting thing ever but to me it helps me when I work.

Where you work is the most important thing because your at work half of your life and you want to work where you know it will be clean.

Make sure your very respectful to your co-workers, they are going to be friends as long as you work there.

  6. Article: Career Tips Blog
Gives advice on how to enhance a job, from your perspective. For example, controlling your energy and focus to not only perform better, but enjoy it and receive recognition.
Be selfish. There is a short blurb about being selfish and I think everyone needs to be. When it comes to getting the job done, you need to focus so if others are stealing your attention, be selfish. Accomplish your task, then play. This works in many aspects of life, especially when you're stressed and need to take care of yourself.

    Article: 8 Mistakes to Avoid
Here are a thought out list of ways to improve your first real world experience and continue to get the most out of it. Being competant is obvious; observe others, learn the rhythm of the office and don't be afraid to get to know everyone, but be proffessional. Articles like this help boost 'newbies' confidence to have something to follow in the world of top dog.
